In the work the main questions of selection at the Red Cattle are integrally considered and solved and promising directions of their improvement are determined. The optimal variants of using improving breeds in improvement of the Red Steppe Cattle and creating on their basis a new Red Dairy breed synthesizing milk yield of 5.000–6.000 kg per lactation, milk fat content of the Angler, technological characteristics of the Red Danish and Holstein, resistance and constitution strength of the Red Steppe Cattle and feasible for a long commercial use are proposed. Nowadays, in the breed two types are developed: a fat-milked type on the basis at crossing the Red Steppe cows with sires at the Angler and Red Danish breeds and a holsteinized type of the Red Steppe Cattle. Advisability of breeding the fat-milked type of the Red Dairy Cattle in Southern Ukraine has been objectively evaluated.
