Kobyletska M.S. Adaptation of corn and soybean plants to toxic influence of cadmium ions. – Manuscript.
Thesis for a scientific degree of the candidate of biological sciences by speciality 03.00.12 – plant physiology. – The Ivan Franko National University of L’viv, L’viv, 2003.
The dissertation is devoted to investigation of adaptive reactions of corn and soybean plants to toxic influence of cadmium ions in different concentrations (10-8, 10-7, 10-6 М). It is proved that during the reaction of ions of heavy metal there are some changes of free amino acids pool, elemental compound and phytohormonal balance in plant’s organs.
It was shown, that cadmium ions act on plants, the general maintenance of free amino acids became less. The content of proline, glutamate, glicine, tyrosine increases and the content of aspartic acid, treonine, valine and alanine become less. The lowering of free amino acids in corn and soybean correlates with the increasing of concentration of chlorine cadmium in the nutrient medium. When the concentration of heavy metal increases in substratum, the amount of potassium, zinc, manganese and copper become less in plant’s organs. The amount of calcium and sodium increase because of the antagonist and synergetic interaction of cadmium and those elements which are examining. It was also shown that near 80% of cadmium ions accumulated in corn’s roots. It is established that the small amount or iron deficiency brings to the increasing level of cadmium in corn and strengthening of toxic influence of heavy metal on the growth of plants. It is also proved that cadmium ions in concentration of 10-8 M brings to the considerable increasing of citokinine activity in roots and shoots. The activity of ABA and phenol compounds increases because of cadmium ions.
Key words: adaptation, free amino acid, phytohormones, Cd2+, Fe3+, phenol compounds.
