Zubok T.O. Agrochemical estimation of fertilizer application under cucumber on dark-grey podzolic soil of the northern Forest Steppe zone of Ukraine. – Manuscript.
Thesis for a Candidate of agricultural science degree by specialty 06.01.04 – agrochemistry. National Agrarian University of Ukraine.
The results of the investigation of using mineral fertilizer under cucumber on dark-grey podzolic soils of the northern Forest Steppe zone of Ukraine are reviewed. The influence of different fertilizers rates on agrochemical data of soil, physiological and biological processes of the plants, yield and biological qualities of cucumber was established. Rational fertilizer rates and economical efficiency of fertilizer application on growing cucumber with using intensive technology were determined.
A field experiment with variety of cucumber Brygadnyy F1 followed carrot. The experiment was laid out in a plot design in three replicates. The soil has pHKCl – 5.9, organic matter content – 2.6%.
There were 8 treatments: blank (no fertilizer application); (2) N50 P70 K120 (spring broadcast); (3) N30 P50 K100 (spring broadcast) + N20P20K20 (root feeding); (4) N30 P50 K100 (spring broadcast)+ N vas 20 P20K20 (root feeding); (5) N30 P50 K100 (spring broadcast); (6) N30 P50 K100 (spring broadcast)+ N20P20K20 +H2O (root feeding); (7) N30 P50 K100 (spring broadcast)+ N vas 20 P20K20 (root feeding)+ “Riverm” (foliar dressing); 8. N30 P50 K100 (spring broadcast)+ N20P20K20 (root feeding)+ “Riverm” (foliar dressing). “Riverm” is aqua solution from worm compost (0.01% solution, the rate of application is 300 L ha-1).
In the broadcast application inorganic fertilizers were spread on the soil surface and fertilizers were applied into the soil in the root zone with a seed drill. Individual plots were 10 x 5.4 m. Cucumber seeds were sown on May depending on physical maturity of soil.
Variety Brygadnyy F1 is known as having a high productivity. Growing conditions in 1999-2000, 2002 were generally favorable. The highest yield was obtained under N30 P50 K100 (spring broadcast)+ N vas 20 P20K20 (root feeding)+ “Riverm” (foliar dressing) application (17.7 t ha-1 compared to background with water). The total dry matter content increased up to 4.63 %, total sugar up to 2.47 % and vitamin C up to 17.1%.
Fertilizer split application showed differences in total biomass, cucumber yield, and quality. The treatment with N30 P50 K100 (spring broadcast)+ N vas 20 P20K20 (root feeding)+ “Riverm” (foliar dressing) was the most effective in the experiment.
Key words: mineral fertilizer, “Riverm”, fertilizer rates, cucumber, soil fertility, cucumber yield and quality, economical efficiency.
